What CRS score do I need for Express Entry?

There is no fixed passing score — cut-offs change with each draw and differ sharply between general, program-specific, and category-based draws. What are category-based draws?

Since 2023, IRCC invites candidates from targeted categories — strong French proficiency and occupations in healthcare and social services, trades, education, and other priority fields — often at lower CRS thresholds than general draws. Eligibility depends on documented work experience matching the category's occupation list, which we verify before building strategy around it.

Do I still get CRS points for a job offer?

No. IRCC removed the additional CRS points for arranged employment in spring 2025. A job offer can still matter enormously for provincial nomination streams and for building Canadian experience, but it no longer adds points inside Express Entry itself.

How long does permanent residence take?

Express Entry applications are targeted at roughly six months from a complete e-APR, but the wait for an invitation varies from weeks to years depending on your score and category. Cut-offs move with draw sizes and categories. Strategy should be built on ranges and multiple routes, not on one hoped-for draw.

Missing the 60-day ITA deadline or filing an incomplete e-APR.

Incomplete applications are rejected, and the ITA is lost. Start collecting police certificates and reference letters before you're invited, not after.

Letting temporary status expire while waiting for PR.
