OINP 2026: nomination allocation confirmed, stream openings remain quota-driven

Updated May 22, 2026Official source

Summary

Ontario has confirmed its 2026 federal nomination allocation and resumed issuing invitations across its streams, but allocations remain well below the program's 2023–2024 peak. Practical effect: streams open, fill, and pause on short notice, Expression of Interest score thresholds move with demand, and the Employer Job Offer streams continue to require employers to initiate part of the process.

Who is affected

Candidates targeting Ontario nomination — particularly Employer Job Offer stream applicants whose employers have not yet completed their portal steps, and Human Capital stream candidates waiting in the EOI pool. Employers supporting nominations are affected by the employer-form requirements and job-ad rules that apply before an invitation can be actioned.

RCIC practical note

With a constrained allocation, OINP is a timing game: files that are fully assembled the day an invitation arrives make the 14-day (or stream-specific) response window comfortably; files that start assembling documents after the invitation frequently miss it or file weak. If Ontario is your plan, treat the EOI stage as the deadline for document collection, not the application stage. And check the official OINP updates page monthly — stream pauses are announced there first, and I have seen candidates plan around streams that had been paused for weeks.

Recommended next steps

  1. 1Register or refresh your Expression of Interest and recalculate your score against recent draw thresholds for your stream.
  2. 2If using an Employer Job Offer stream, confirm your employer understands their portal and form obligations now.
  3. 3Assemble education, language, experience, and settlement-funds documents before any invitation is issued.
  4. 4Monitor the OINP program updates page for stream openings, pauses, and allocation announcements.
